Five rescued after rowboat overturns near Candlestick Point

Five people were rescued from the water near Candlestick Point on Saturday after a rowboat capsized, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Two 12-year-olds were rowing near the point around 5 p.m. when their 5-foot boat began taking on water and sinking, Coast Guard spokesperson Mike Lutz said.

Three adults on shore who saw the incident waded out to assist, but then were unable to get back to shore themselves.

The San Francisco Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene, and a Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat was able to pull all five to safety.
