Fight leads to fatal stabbing in Golden Gate Park

A man is in custody after a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Golden Gate Park near the Conservatory of Flowers on Sunday night.

The stabbing happened after a fight around 9:40 p.m. near John F. Kennedy and Conservatory drives, according to police.

After witnesses called police to report a suspicious looking man, park patrol responded and the 65-year-old man flagged the car down.

The man was detained, and police are still investigating.

Visitors to Golden Gate Park on Monday were not shocked by the incident.

“If you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, then you’re out of luck,” said Brian Costello, who was visiting from the United Kingdom, and has lived in the Richmond district. “It doesn’t really surprise me.”

The Medical Examiner had not yet notified the family of the man stabbed and were not releasing his ID.
