Feds announce completion of $14.5 million SFO stimulus projects

Federal officials gathered at San Francisco International Airport on Friday to mark the completion of $14.5 million worth of stimulus projects at the international hub.

The funding went toward paving and infrastructure improvements at two separate SFO runways. Construction on one of the runways was finished one year in advance due to the $5.5 million injection from the stimulus project, and the second project is now two years ahead of schedule thanks to the $9 million federal investment.

The repaving improvements will help prevent unexpected runway shutdowns and guard against pavement debris, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The work also included lighting upgrades, repainting work and drainage improvements.
