A bleacher railing at AT&T Park gave way at a local high school football championship game Saturday night, injuring a few fans during the postgame celebration, police said.

The accident occurred at the close of the St. Ignatius-Sacred Heart Cathedral game, which St. Ignatius won 21-14.

Excited fans were leaning over the railing as the championship trophy was coming by, and the railing collapsed a few feet, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza. He said between five and seven people were injured in the fall.

The Fire Department was called to the area at 9:12 p.m. The injuries were described as minor and no one was hospitalized.
