Famous psychic to join search for Mill Valley woman

A well-known psychic has joined the search for missing Mill Valley resident Veronica "Nikki" Ruiz, who was last seen Dec. 3 when she went for a hike on Mt. Tamalpais.

Jeff Baker, who has made numerous television appearances as a psychic, including on Lifetime's American Psychic Challenge, has joined the search effort, said Maricris Ruiz, the missing woman's sister.

Maricris Ruiz said she is expecting about 150 people to help with the search Saturday and Sunday.

Baker is scheduled to arrive by 1 p.m. Saturday and will assist through Sunday, she said.

The family and friends of 25-year-old Veronica Ruiz have asked those who cannot help with the search to assist by donating funds or items.

Maricris Ruiz said they have received approximately $2,000 in addition to bottled water, snack bars and food for lunch and dinner.

Several restaurants and churches have helped with donations.

"Even just bottled water or whatever would help," Maricris Ruiz said, although sheadded that what they really need are more people to help with the search.

Donations can be made in Daly City or Mill Valley at locations listed on the search Web site at www.helpfindveronicaruiz.com. Money donations for search supplies can also be made on the Web site.

Volunteers interested in searching for Veronica Ruiz can contact Maricris Ruiz by phone at (650) 222-9578 or email at findveronicaruiz@yahoo.com.

Police are encouraging anyone with information on Veronica Ruiz's whereabouts to contact Detective Sgt. Dean Loutas at (415) 389-4100.

She is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 120 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes, a light brown complexion and a scar on her right abdomen.

Her family said she was possibly wearing white trail running shoes, black running Capri pants, a black fleece vest, and carrying a gray and orange Camelback water supply backpack and a black iPod on her wrist. A picture of the backpack is available on the search Web site.
