Fair Oaks Library event raises $29K for books

About $29,000 was raised recently for the Fair Oaks Library, which is seeking to raise a $250,000 for supplies.
Nearly 100 people attended the event, hosted by the Redwood City Library Foundation. Fair Oaks serves primarily Hispanic immigrants in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood.

An auction that included vacations and dinners by local celebrities raised more than $11,000. Another $18,000 was raised through sponsorships by local businesses.

The library has seen a dramatic increase in usage in the past year, prompting the call for more supplies.

“Some book shelves were nearly empty,” foundation co-President Cheryl Angeles said in a press release.
