Eyeglasses thief won’t see Stonestown Galleria mall

The man who was tackled by an off-duty cop after walking out of a Stonestown Galleria store without paying for eyeglass frames has been banned from coming near the mall for three years.

Evert Brown, 21, pleaded guilty to burglary Wednesday for the Jan. 14 shoplifting incident in which he allegedly socked the cop in an attempt to run, Assistant District Attorney Marisa Rodriguez said.

Brown received three years’ probation as part of his sentence, Rodriguez said. He will remain in jail until he is formally sentenced later this month.

An off-duty UC San Francisco police sergeant had tried to stop Brown from leaving, identifying himself as a cop numerous times, police said. Instead of surrendering, Brown punched the officer, police said.
