A business was robbed at gunpoint in the Excelsior district early Thursday morning, police said.

Two men entered a business in the 4500 block of Mission Street about 4:35 a.m. and demanded cash from the one of the two people working there, police said.

A second employee, a 64-year-old man, tried to intervene on behalf of the first victim, a 24-year-old woman, when one of the suspects tackled him to the ground, police said. At that point, the two suspects pulled out their handguns.

One of the crooks took the woman into a back room and took money from a cash box, police said. They then ordered everyone into the back room and fled.

The thieves also stole a cellphone.

The suspects were described only as men in their 20s.

No arrests have been made.

The male victim complained of pain to his leg but refused medical treatment, police said.
