Examiner’s chief tabbed to lead its Web sites

The executive editor of the San Francisco Examiner has been named the executive producer of the paper’s Web site, the company announced Thursday.

James E. Pimentel will developand manage the site for the San Francisco paper, as well as the sites for its sister publications in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

"I look forward to extending the reach of these great newspapers by creating localized Web sites that can serve our loyal readers," Pimentel said.

As the executive producer of the three sites, Pimentel will manage them and help build them into leading destinations on the Web for local and national breaking news.

Vivienne Sosnowski, editorial director for Clarity Media — the parent company of The Examiner papers — made the announcement Thursday.

Pimentel has been at The Examiner for seven years, working as the sports editor and managing editor before moving to the executive editor position in 2006.

Before moving to The Examiner, Pimentel worked at the Oakland Tribune for more than 12 years and at the San Francisco-based Internet company Quokka Sports for five years. At Quokka, Pimentel was the senior producer for several sites, including Golf.com.

In addition to his new role for the Web sites, Pimentel will continue to serve as executive editor for the San Francisco Examiner.
