Examiner marketing director promoted

San Francisco Examiner Marketing Director Martina H. Eckstut has been promoted to a post that will now include similar responsibilities for the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

In her new position, Eckstut will be responsible for marketing, promotions and event sponsorship at both newspapers. The San Francisco Newspaper Co., parent company of the Examiner, recently purchased the venerable newsweekly.

Eckstut said each newspaper would remain true to its mission, readers and advertisers.

“We’re not going to change the integrity of each paper,” she said. “Each paper is going to have its own standalone message.”

Company President and Examiner Publisher Todd Vogt said the promotion was well-deserved.

“Martina has done a bang-up job at the Examiner, and I’m confident that she will represent both papers admirably,” Vogt said.

Last November, a group of veteran newspaper executives including the locally based Vogt and Examiner CFO Pat Brown returned the Examiner to local editorial control from former owners Clarity Media Group.
