Ex-Newsom employee to speak on state government

Is California ungovernable? A Gavin Newsom-ex will tell you what he thinks. Garry South, former campaign strategist for Mayor Gavin Newsom’s failed gubernatorial campaign, makes an appearance at a state business summit May 17 to talk about the precarious state of California.

South, who is now working on Janice Hahn’s campaign for lieutenant governor, will join two other state political strategists to talk about California governance reform. The business summit is being hosted by California Chamber of Commerce in Sacramento.

Other speakers include Jim Brulte, a longtime Republican and party strategist, and Gale Kaufman, a leading Democratic campaign consultant for more than 70 congressional and state legislative races.
