Event will honor Works Progress Administration

San Francisco International Airport, Treasure Island, the murals at Coit Tower and the Beach Chalet — for these we can thank the Works Progress Administration, born more than 75 years ago as an effort to pull the nation out of the Great Depression.

This weekend, in an event endorsed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, people are invited to the new federal building at 7th and Mission streets to mark the anniversary. The commemoration will coincide with a rally demanding more job-oriented stimulus dollars to employ people during today’s Great Recession.

The event will be held this Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
