Error-filled textbook gets past Virginia Board of Education

DIM BULB: The Virginia Board of Education approved a corrected edition of “Our Virginia: Past and Present,” an error-filled history textbook that falsely claimed “thousands of Southern blacks fought in the Confederate ranks, including two black battalions commanded by Stonewall Jackson.” But a college professor who independently checked the new version assembled a four-page list of unfixed errors such as dubious quotations, misleading images and maps depicting inaccurate borders. Misspellings included the “United States Navel Academy.”
