Enigmatic blast, flash of light draws bomb squad’s attention

Could it be an X-File?

Probably not. But mystery hovers over an incident that occurred minutes after midnight Tuesday in which a loud explosion and flash of light caused minor damage to a Noe Valley home, police said.

A 54-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy heard the blast and witnessed the flash of light from inside the home in the 400 block of Hoffman Street, police said. The boy peered out the window and saw nothing, but heard “young male voices,” police said.

Arson investigators and a bomb squad responded to the home, police said. However, the cause of the explosion remains unknown, they said.
