Elsbernd, operators union scheduled to debate Tuesday at transit meeting

The two opposing sides of the hotly debated proposal to reform Muni work rules will meet Tuesday evening.

Supervisor Sean Elsbernd, who is sponsoring a signature-gathering movement to get a measure on the November ballot that would rewrite contract negotiation requirements for Muni’s 2,200 operators, is scheduled to speak Tuesday with members of Rescue Muni, a local transit advocacy organization.

Representatives from the Transport Workers Union Local 250-A, which represents Muni operators, are also expected to attend the meeting. The union has strongly opposed Elsbernd’s proposal, which would amend the existing City Charter.

The debate is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Harvey Milk Center in Duboce Park.
