Elderly man struck, killed by Muni train

A 70-year-old San Francisco man died at the hospital on Friday after being struck by a San Francisco Municipal Railway streetcar in the Ingleside district, authorities reported today.

The victim, Shu Si Yu, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died, according to the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

A Muni K/T-line train hit the man about mid-block on Ocean Avenue near Capitol Avenue at about 11:20 a.m., according to police and a Muni spokesman.

The accident was the seventh pedestrian fatality in San Francisco involving Muni vehicles this year, and the second in less than a day.

On Thursday night, 15-year-old LaTrena Crosley died after being hit by a Muni bus at the intersection of San Bruno Avenue and Bacon Street in the Portola District.

Both accidents are still under investigation by police.
