Elderly couple scammed by man posing as construction worker in Bernal Heights

An elderly couple were scammed by a crook posing as a construction worker in Bernal Heights on Monday, police said Tuesday.

The suspect, a man who appeared to be in his 50s, asked to enter the residence in the 300 block of Highland Avenue about 9:45 a.m. saying that he was a construction worker and needed to look at their fence for a neighbor, police said.

The victims, a 90-year-old man and 85-year-old woman, allowed him to access the fence. But while they weren't looking, the man stole various pieces of jewelry, police said.

No arrest was made.
