El Granada man arrested on charges of threats against a deputy

An El Granada man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of making threats on social media to a San Mateo County sheriff's deputy.

Gervacio Ronquillo Jr., 23, is alleged to have made the threats in response to an encounter he had with the deputy.

Ronquillo not only described a possible armed assault against the deputy, but also suggested the use of explosives, Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said in a statement Thursday.

“With an increasing nationwide trend of premeditated armed assaults against law enforcement officers, the Sheriff's Office treated these threats as extremely serious,” Rosenblatt said.

Ronquillo was arrested at his home in the 800 block of Valencia Street about 7:30 a.m. He was booked into County Jail on a charge of threats to an executive officer. Bail was set at $50,000.
