Ed Lee’s face to adorn Chinatown mural

Not more than a month in office and Mayor Ed Lee is set to have his face painted on a mural in the heart of Chinatown.

And who says he’s not a rock star?

While the standards for immortalizing a public figure in art can be strict, murals tend to be more about capturing the zeitgeist, and in Lee’s case, he is the first Chinese American to be mayor of San Francisco.

Lee and Academy of Art University President Dr. Elisa Stephens will be on hand Saturday in Chinatown to unveil plans for the mural. The only clue we have to the content of the mural is that it is a “historical mural project,” and Lee appears to be the center of that version of history.

The show starts at 8:30 a.m. at 838 Pacific Ave.
