Eco-Urban Festival returns to Union Street

Eleanor Carpenter, the president of the Union Street Merchants Association helped plan the Union Street Eco-Urban Festival on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. on Union Street, between Gough and Steiner streets.
What is the Eco-Urban Festival? Union Street has hosted the festival for 33 years, these last three growing the eco-urban element. By this I mean that two of the six blocks with more than 150 vendors are dedicated to product and items that are recycled and sustainable. Of the 25 food booths, a number of them will have organic edibles along with gourmet and organic products.

What is unique about this year's event? This year more than ever, the feeling is so positive because of the renaissance on Union Street these past few months. Several new stores and many new restaurants have opened or are about to open.

What are you most looking forward to at the festival? The entertainment. We have two stages with 16 bands. We look forward to seeing all the new craftspeople and artists, and of of course the food. I love the garlic fries.

How many people are expected to attend? We're looking forward to hosting nearly 100,000 people.
