Eat chili, raise dollars for McLaren Park

A $2,000 grant for an informational booth in McLaren Park will expire this year, and that amount falls at least $3,000 short of the booth’s overall price tag.

And since the funds won’t come from Rec and Park, volunteers are battling for bucks at a $10 chili cookoff next month.

Help McLaren Park, a volunteer group with patrons from the nonprofit Neighborhood Parks Council and Friends of McLaren Park, estimated at least a $5,000 tab to install the kiosk.

The group in the past has organized flower sales, garage sales and cleanup days for the second largest park in The City.

So, all the cookoff dollars will supplement the SF Parks Trust grant.

Then if the chili’s so phenomenal that they raise more, it’ll go toward play equipment on Burrows Street.

The all-you-can-eat cookoff, where kids eat for free but adults pay $10, is from noon to 3 p.m. on March 13 at Louis Sutter Roundhouse.
