ASIAN WAFFLES IN GLEN PARK

Eggettes is an Asian waffle shop that also specializes in fresh fruit drinks. Eggy, delicately sweet "original" Eggettes ($2.70) are baked in special irons that make them look like golden cylinders of bubble wrap. Warm, crunchy and addictive, they can be a meal, especially with a tropical fruit drink like the Hawaiian ($3.45) — fresh orange juice, pineapple and strawberries blended together with just the right amount of sugar syrup and poured over ice. For the full bubble experience, add chewy purple tapioca pearls for a quarter. Here’s another secret: Along one wall of the large shop, a bank of coin-operated machines dispense little plastic toys in clear plastic bubbles. Kids adore them and crowd into the shop after school. If you're waiting en famille for a table at Gialina, relief is just down the street.
