East Bay residents jolted by 2.4-magnitude aftershock quake

A second earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.4 was reported in the East Bay this morning, just minutes after an earlier quake shook the area.

The aftershock was reported just before 3:20 a.m. and was centered in the same location -- four miles south of Danville and 11 miles east-northeast of Oakland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake had a depth of 4.1 miles, the USGS said.
