Drunken man takes a beating in South of Market area assault

A reportedly belligerent and intoxicated man was assaulted by another man in South of Market on Wednesday, police said.

The 38-year-old victim was intoxicated and acting belligerent about 6:35 p.m. when he approached the suspect, a man aged 25 to 30, in the area of Grace and Howard streets, police said.

The suspect struck the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground, police said. The suspect reportedly continued hitting the victim until he lost consciousness, then fled.

The victim was treated at the hospital for his injuries, which were reportedly not life-threatening -- although he probably had a monster hangover.
