Drunken man assaulted, robbed in Mid-Market area

An inebriated man was challenged to a fight and robbed in the Mid-Market area early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 38-year-old victim was reportedly drunk while walking on Sixth Street near Market about 12:30 a.m. when a man challenged him to a fight, police said. It is unknown if the victim accepted the challenge but the man punched the victim anyway and he fell to the ground, sustaining cuts to his face.

The crook who punched the man also stole his wallet before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries, which were not life threatening.

There was little description available of the assailant.
