Drunken driver out cold at Cesar Chavez intersection

He was literally asleep at the wheel.

A man was arrested for drunken driving last week after he was discovered passed out in his car at a Cesar Chavez Street intersection, police said.

Officers on patrol near the unit block of Cesar Chavez on Wednesday saw a car stopped at a green light around 11:46 p.m.

They began to bang on the window but were unable to wake the man up, police said.

An ambulance and fire truck were called to the scene to assist. Five minutes later the man woke up and got out of the car. He had slurred speech and could not stand on his own, police said.

He was transported to the hospital due to an irregular heartbeat. The driver agreed to give a blood sample and was arrested for drunken driving, police said.
