Driver tries to snatch boy in Orinda

Orinda police are looking for a man in a white pick-up truck who attempted to snatch an 11-year-old boy Tuesday morning.

The boy was walking to school on Hillcrest Drive at Vianne Court about 8 a.m. when a man pulled up and asked if he wanted a ride, Sgt. Mohammad Djajakusuma said.

When the boy refused, the man shouted to the boy in a thick British accent "Get it in the truck now," Djajakusuma said. The boy ran to the front porch of the nearest house and the truck sped off.

The boy reported the incident this afternoon to his parents, who contacted police, Djajakusuma said.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s wearing a baseball cap and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his cap, Djajakusuma said. He had a scar on the right side of his face.

His truck had a lumber rack on the back and with damage on the driver’s side between the door and the bed, said Djajakusuma.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Orinda Police Department at (925) 284-5010.
