DPW mixes up streets in Outer Richmond

Update 4:04 p.m. Wednesday: Just received word from the Department of Public Works that the names of Cabrillo Street and 46th Avenue have been switched. The sidewalks on Cabrillo Street and 46th Avenue have now been corrected to say the right names.

Even local residents might want to bring a road map when they’re walking around in the Richmond district.

Due to a snafu by the Department of Public Works, Cabrillo Street and 46th Avenue are completely switched around at an intersection in the Outer Richmond.

The Richmond District Blog has reported that the Cabrillo Street name has been etched into the sidewalk on 46th Avenue. On the Cabrillo Street sidewalk, 48th Avenue has been etched into the asphalt, a double-mistake, since the already-bungled intersection is located at 46th Avenue.

That mess-up is just one more reason for pedestrians to keep their heads up when they’re out walking on city streets.
