DPT officer critically hurt in brutal crash

A parking enforcement officer in San Francisco was seriously injured Friday morning after a driver busted a red light and plowed into his pint-sized Cushman vehicle, police said.

The crash at Polk and Ellis streets around 11:20 a.m. ejected the Department of Parking and Traffic employee, who was then crushed after his Cushman vehicle landed on top of him, police said.

Police called the accident “horrific,” saying the parking officer’s injuries were serious. But he is expected to survive the brutal accident.

He was wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver, who was headed westbound on Ellis Street when he ran the red light, “t-boned” the vehicle. An investigation was ongoing while the city employee was being transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
