Dozens detained at Swiss protest before Davos

Police in the Swiss capital say they have detained more than 100 people who took part in a demonstration against an upcoming meeting of global political and economic elites.

The protest targeted the annual World Economic Forum that takes place Jan. 25-29 in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

Bern police say a group of between 100 and 120 people were stopped from staging an unapproved demonstration in the center of the city Saturday afternoon.

A police statement said some of the would-be protesters threw fireworks and objects at officers. Police later found a vehicle containing large amounts of pepper spray, masks and helmets. The statement said "several" protesters were charged with breaching the peace.
