Double-fatal shuts down Richmond Parkway

Richmond Parkway is closed in both directions Wednesday afternoon while police investigate a head-on crash that killed two people, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said.

The crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. on southbound Richmond Parkway near Gertrude Avenue, French said.

It appears that a motorist driving north on Richmond Parkway lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the center median and crashed head-on into a school bus, French said. Two people in the car died.

There were no children on the bus when the crash happened and the bus driver was not hurt, French said.

French said she expects Richmond Parkway to remain closed for several hours.
