Don’t mess with Golden Gate National Recreation Area’s water

The water where the Pacific Ocean meets the Bay Area may get more protection from the federal government soon.

The long-winded version: The Golden Gate National Recreation Area was one of 21 national park units nominated to become a Marine Protected Area by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Protected Areas Center and the Department of the Interior.

But to make the Federal Register notice short: The GGNRA will be eligible for more grants and work with other protected areas toward achieving similar goals while making it easier to compare their trends.

It’s open for public comment until Feb. 22, then it’ll be reviewed and possibly published on the Federal Register.
