Domestic dispute turns into knife fight at South City party

Two men were arrested and one woman was hospitalized following a domestic dispute that turned into a knife fight at a South San Francisco party early Wednesday morning.

Police found out about the altercation at 3 a.m., after being called to Seton Medical Center in Daly City, where a woman was being treated for injuries on the right side of her head. The woman, whose name has not been released, had a two-inch gash above her forehead, a one-inch laceration to her head, and a substantial amount of hair missing, according to a report from the South San Francisco Police Department.

When officers interviewed the woman’s husband, 38-year-old Eric Herrera of Daly City, he appeared evasive and gave vague explanations for how his wife sustained her injuries, according to the report.

After persistent questioning, it was determined that Herrera and his wife were involved in an argument at a party in a South San Francisco residence on 34 Lewis Ave. During the dispute, Herrera allegedly slapped his wife in the face.

Another party goer, 31-year-old South City resident Reuben Villasenor, intervened in the dispute, which eventually escalated to a physical altercation between him and Herrera. Villasenor grabbed a kitchen knife, at which time Herrera’s wife got between the two men.

While trying to break up the fight, Herrera’s wife received the injuries to her face and forehead and was taken to the hospital.

After determining what happened, officers arrested Herrera and booked him into San Mateo County Jail. They also determined that Villasenor was a parolee-at-large and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in South San Francisco for a previous offense.

After contacting Villasenor at his residence, officers found a large quantity of methamphetamine packaged for sale and a large amount of cash. Villasenor was subsequently arrested for the warrant, the assault on Herrera’s wife, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell. He was also booked in San Mateo County Jail.

Herrera’s wife was not charged with any crimes.
