Dogs urged to remain on leash during coyote breeding season in Golden Gate Park

With coyote breeding season underway, dog owners and walkers are being asked to keep their pooches on leash in Golden Gate Park to help avoid confrontations with wildlife.

During breeding season, coyotes can become aggressive toward other animals and humans if they come close to the dens where their pups live.

The Recreation and Park Department has posted warning signs in areas around the Bison Paddock, which has an off-leash dog area, and Chain of Lakes, which dog owners and walkers often use.

Breeding season typically runs through summer.

Humans should not feed coyotes or run away from them. Adults should always put themselves between a coyote and a small child or small animal.
