Dog's bite beats out armed crook's bark

This robber got ruff treatment.

A gun-toting crook in Bernal Heights got away with only a set of keys after the victim’s dog chased him down and bit him early Thursday, according to San Francisco police.

Just after midnight, the suspect held a 27-year-old woman at gunpoint in the 500 block of Alemany Boulevard, just north of U.S. Highway 280, police Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

When the victim held her hands up, the crook patted her down and stole her keys. But the victim’s growling dog came to her defense. Spooked by the pooch, the crook fled. The dog chased down the robber and bit him, Fong said.

But the animal with the gun got away. There has been no arrest, police said.

The victim and dog were not injured.
