Doctors honored for diabetes research

2012 Hope Gala: Dr. Napoleone Ferrara and Dr. Anthony P. Adamis of Genentech were honored Saturday by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at its annual gala at the Ritz-Carlton in The City. The doctors were recognized for their achievement in developing a treatment for patients with diabetic macular edema, the leading cause of vision loss for people living with diabetes. Proceeds from the benefit will go toward continuing JDRF’s mission to cure, treat and prevent Type 1 diabetes.

Dancers unite for cancer prevention

‘Get in Front’ performance: On June 6 at San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, artists from some of the Bay Area’s most celebrated dance companies —  including the San Francisco Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, ODC/Dance, AXIS Dance Company, Smuin Ballet and Robert Moses’ Kin — appeared in a benefit for the Cancer Prevention Institute of California. San Francisco Ballet soloists Garen Scribner and James Sofranko were instrumental in organizing the first-of-its-kind fundraiser, which also included a reception and silent auction.
