Disturbing fad: YouTube’s newest trend is self-injuring on video

WHAT: People deliberately harming themselves on camera are a popular new YouTube category. A study in the medical journal Pediatrics calls it "nonsuicidal self-injurious behavior."

HOW EXTENSIVE: YouTube’s top 100 videos found by a "self-injury" or "self-harm" search were viewed more than 2 million times and received mostly positive comments.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Such self-destructive videos are easily found throughout the Internet. They are usually posted without restrictions or warnings.
