District attorney prosecuted while avoiding his own prosecution

Merced County Deputy District Attorney Matthew Shelton, 43, resigned after his bosses discovered he had been prosecuting cases despite a nearly year-old warrant for his arrest. A judge issued a bench warrant in April when Shelton failed to appear in court for speeding and driving on a suspended license. Shelton may also have broken other laws by prosecuting cases while suspended by the State Bar in 2008.
