Disc golf debate resurrected

It could trump 40 acres of off-leash dog area -- but Rec and Park has posted the proposed layout of a disc golf course in The City’s second-largest park, and it’s an idea that’s been debated for more than a decade.

The San Francisco Disc Golf Club would pay for the course in McLaren Park, an offshoot of their popular one in Golden Gate Park with more than 300 members who donate $40 a year for its maintenance.

Here’s a link to the disc golf club’s fact sheet.

But even though it’s the second-largest park, it’s one-third the size of Golden Gate Park and the layout will take away space from hikers, dog-walkers and other revelers in the southeast community, according to the president of Friends of McLaren Park.

The next community meeting is on April 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Crocker Amazon Clubhouse.
