Disc golf causing a lot of ruckus now

Maybe there wasn’t enough public input before Rec and Park commissioners agreed to let the San Francisco Disc Golf Club to build a course in McLaren Park five years ago and before it’s built that should be addressed.

Commissioner Gloria Bonilla who was present during the vote in 2005 that resolved a course would go in Golden Gate Park or McLaren said the focus after years of debate was on Golden Gate Park, and that McLaren “really was an afterthought.’’

And since the community meetings on the proposed layout since April have been stirring so much debate, they’ve asked Supervisor John Avalos for help in sorting it out, said General Manager Phil Ginsburg.

“We're very open to continuing the community dialogue and to bring the matter before the commission,’’ Ginsburg said.

Commissioners welcomed the thought of a public hearing on the matter.
