Efforts to make county fairs more “green” this summer have in many cases failed to make much headway. While fairs in California and Washington are installing solar panels and converting used cooking oil to biofuel, others are just starting to introduce recycling bins and encouraging vendors to drop Styrofoam packaging. And while turning off the lights may conserve electricity, it doesn’t look as much like a fair.
