Digitalism is kicking off Vessel's birthday week

Vessel is calling for all hands on deck as it celebrates five years of outrageous parties with five unprecedented star-studded nights.

In honor of its fifth anniversary, the intimate Union Square nightclub is producing a weeklong event dubbed “V,” which features quite the high-profile lineup: Digitalism, Moby, A-Trak, Max Vangeli, and Hercules and Love Affair.

Festivities begin with German electro duo Digitalism headlining at “Obey The Kitty,” a weekly Wednesday night party backed by indie label Dim Mak Records.

Resident “OTK” DJ Justin Miller (aka Justin Milla) has been a mainstay at Vessel for more than a year and says he has found his experience to be better than just OK.

“It’s been really good,” Miller says.

“Obey The Kitty has been going on for just about a year and it’s been awesome,” Miller says. “I can honestly say we’ve never had a bad night.”

Along with his weekly “OTK” gig, Miller says he helps behind the scenes at Vessel and is on board with the venue’s musical plans to memorialize the occasion.

“Digitalism, they generally play larger venues, as do most of the artists that are playing the week,” Miller says. “I think it’s a really appropriate artist to kick things off.”

Signed to French label Kitsuné Music, Digitalism — Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi — has remixed tracks for Daft Punk, White Stripes, Depeche Mode and The Cure.

“We wanted to get them [Digitalism] in to play ‘Obey The Kitty’ for a while,” Miller says, “and now we finally are and I think it’s perfect.”

The pop-leaning pair is slated to play a DJ set — as opposed to performing tracks live — and audiences can expect to hear a crowd-pleasing mix of older and newish electronic dance tracks.

“It’s going to be a really, really good week,” Miller says. “I’m super excited for it.”
