Did city put up good fight for World Cup?

Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi wants to find out everything The City did to try and become a host of the World Cup soccer tournament in 2018 or 2022 because Mirkarimi cannot believe that San Francisco is not on the “short list” of cities who are the top contenders.

“I’m a little concerned that we have cities like Nashville and Tampa, St. Louis, among others, who are actually more in position to host the World Cup,” said Mirkarimi, noting that he thinks San Francisco would be one of the best hosts ever seen.

On Tuesday, he submitted a letter of inquiry to the Mayor’s Office to figure out just how aggressive the administration was in competing for the honor.
