DeVaughn exemplifies ‘The Love Experience’

R&B singer-songwriter Raheem DeVaughn, who got his start playing music in Baltimore, brings his "Art of Love" tour to San Francisco.

DeVaughn was a nominee for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards for the single "Woman." "Love Behind the Melody" is his latest album; his 2005 breakthrough was "The Love Experience." Although he has been compared with D’Angelo, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, he prefers to call himself an "R&B hippie neo-soul rock star."

He plays on a bill with Chrisette Michele on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Tickets are $35. Call (415) 346-6000 or visit www.thefillmore.com.
