Details emerge in San Mateo bank heist

Police have released more details and a photo of the suspect in Friday’s robbery of a San Mateo bank.

The suspect walked into the Washington Mutual Bank at 1730 El Camino Real and handed a teller a demand note reading "This is a robbery," San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi said. He received an undisclosed amount of money and then fled toward El Camino Real.

An extensive search by police yielded no clues.

The suspect is described as a thin, balding white man at least 55 years old. He was wearing a dark-colored, striped dress shirt with an open collar, Brunicardi said.

Anyone with information about the robbery or suspect is asked to call the anonymous witness hotline at (650) 522-7676.
