Denture creams linked to crippling nerve damage

WHAT: A study in the medical journal Neurology linked excessive longtime use of denture creams adhesives such as Fixodent and Poli-Grip to severe neurological diseases caused by zinc overdose.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Publication of the study was allegedly delayed for more than two years because of a hostile peer review by a dentist found to be a paid consultant for Procter & Gamble, the maker of Fixodent.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT: The makers of Poli-Grip no longer use zinc. But Procter & Gamble only added a warning label to Fixodent packages. Also, hundreds of former denture-cream users are suing.
