Dennis Herrera to MLB: No way should Oakland A's be in San Jose

In a six-page letter, City Attorney Dennis Herrera warned Major League Baseball’s Allan H. “Bud” Selig that he should not tamper with the San Francisco Giants’ territorial rights with talks of moving the Oakland A's to San Jose.

Herrera detailed The City’s financial interests in the Giants franchise and its efforts to prevent the team from relocating to Florida under previous ownership.

He wrote about how The City has been under the impression that Major League Baseball would not undermine the viability of the Giants franchise or the team’s ability to meet its contractual obligations with The City.

"I write to you now to make clear up front the legal concerns I have on behalf of the City should Major League Baseball tamper with the Giants' territorial rights," he wrote.
