Democrats say it with donuts

Democrats are working hard to promote the benefits of the $1 trillion health care reform law and have taken to bribing the fourth estate with donuts to help get their message across.

Democratic leadership staff on Thursday delivered boxes of donut holes to the various Capitol press galleries, covering up the Dunkin’ Donuts logo and replacing it with Republikn’ Donut Holes, in reference to the gap in Medicare prescription coverage created by the Republican-led Medicare reform bill passed in 2003.

As part of the Democratic health care reform bill, the government will begin mailing $250 checks to Medicare recipients “marking the beginning of the end for the egregious policy that left seniors to choose between buying the prescriptions they need and putting food on the table,” Democrats said in a message accompanying the donuts. The health care law aims to close the gap entirely by 2020.
