Dem senate candidate attacks Republican for opposing Iran invasion. Huh?

Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, D, who is running to succeed appointed Sen. Roland Burris, D, in Barack Obama's old senate seat, attacked his Republican opponent earlier this week for...opposing an invasion of Iran.

From Giannoulias's website:

"Today Mark Kirk (R) took the irresponsible step of saying that he opposes a military option in dealing with Iran. While saying that he believes Iran is in the midst of a "nuclear breakout," he removed a critical instrument in the U.S. foreign policy toolbox."

Republicans accuse Giannoulias of engaging in such bellicose rhetoric (in which some Republicans have liberally partaken in the past) to innoculate himself against charges that he is not supportive of Israel. The Giannoulias family's bank, Broadway, has made annual contributions to a foundation that supports the Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine and this year honored a group called the Electronic Intifada.
