Dead body found in T.G.I. Friday's

A body was found inside a San Mateo T.G.I. Friday's early thismorning in what investigators are calling the city's first homicide in two years.

San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi said that a daytime restaurant manager arrived at the eatery, located at 3101 S. El Camino Real, at around 5:15 a.m. today and found a nighttime employee on the floor. The manager immediately called police, who arrived within minutes, and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

San Mateo police enacted the San Mateo County homicide protocol to investigate the murder, which brings together police detectives, the county crime lab and the district attorney's office. Once the investigation is complete, a spokesman from the San Mateo County coroner's office said his office will retrieve the body.

This is the city's first homicide of the year. There were no murders in San Mateo in 2007, according to Brunicardi.

T.G.I. Friday's is located across the street from Hillsdale Mall and is situated along the Caltrain tracks.
